Types of Orthodontic Appliances

At Foster Orthodontics, we offer a variety of orthodontic appliances to address different dental concerns and achieve optimal results for our patients.

Here are some common types of appliances we may recommend during your treatment:

Common Types of Appliances

Traditional Braces

Traditional metal braces consist of brackets, wires, and bands that are bonded to the teeth. They apply gentle pressure to gradually move teeth into the desired position. Metal braces are effective for correcting a wide range of orthodontic issues and are suitable for patients of all ages.
Clarity™

Clear Braces

Clear braces work similarly to traditional braces but use tooth-colored or clear brackets and wires for a more discreet appearance. Clear braces are an excellent option for patients who desire a less noticeable alternative to traditional metal braces.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a popular alternative to traditional braces that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. Invisalign aligners are custom-made for each patient and are virtually invisible when worn. They are removable for eating, brushing, and flossing, offering greater convenience and flexibility during treatment.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are similar to traditional braces but are placed on the back (lingual) surface of the teeth, making them virtually invisible from the front. Lingual braces are an excellent option for patients who desire a discreet treatment option without the visibility of traditional braces.

Space Maintainers

Space maintainers are appliances used to preserve space in the dental arch following premature tooth loss. They prevent adjacent teeth from shifting into the space and help guide the eruption of permanent teeth.

Palatal Expanders

Palatal expanders are used to widen the upper jaw to correct crossbites, crowding, and other orthodontic issues. They are often recommended for children during their early orthodontic treatment phase.

Retainers

Retainers are custom-made appliances worn after orthodontic treatment to maintain the position of teeth and prevent them from shifting back to their original position. They can be removable or fixed and are an essential part of maintaining the results of orthodontic treatment.
