Foster Orthodontics

fostering beautiful smiles...

Dr. W. Lang Foster

Meet Dr. W. Lang Foster, III

One of the many blessings of my life is practicing orthodontics. It is my privilege to be entrusted with the smiles of my patients. And, consequently, that is what we do here every day — we smile and we have fun! From young to young at heart, our goal is to have our patients smile not only at the end of treatment, but also at every appointment.

Education and Continuing Education

In order to become an orthodontist, I first attended Wofford College, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I then went on to the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine and was selected for a Healthcare Professional Scholarship from the U.S. Navy during my junior year. Upon graduation from dental school, I was commissioned as a Lieutenant and dental officer in the U.S. Navy.

I began my time in the Navy in an Advanced Education in General Dentistry program in San Diego, California. For the next six years I served with the Marine Corps in Okinanwa, Japan and Beaufort, South Carolina. While performing my duties as a general dentist, I was chosen by the Navy for further training in orthodontics. I went to Wilford Hall Medical Center for a two-year orthodontic program and left with my Certificate of Orthodontics. After orthodontic residency, my family and I lived in Yokosuka, Japan for three years where I provided orthodontic treatment to dependents and service members and served as Specialty Advisor and Department Head for Orthodontics at U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka. After twelve years in the Navy, I was honorably discharged as a Commander.

Although my formal education is complete, I typically receive more than 30 hours of continuing education each year. I seek out continuing education courses in every treatment modality offered to our patients. It is of the utmost importance to me to stay ahead of the latest treatments and technologies so that we can pass the benefits on to our patients.

In the Office

I have been interested in orthodontics since walking into the orthodontist's office at age 12. Starting at age 14, I spent two summers tracing X-rays and pouring patient models for my orthodontist. After that, I never considered a career path other than dentistry; I have fulfilled a lifelong dream.

After more than 15 years working with patients, I have cherished the relationships I have made and the lessons I have learned. Every day brings new challenges and joys into my life. My team is exceptional in their ability to provide wonderful customer service and quality treatment maintenance. We all put our best efforts forward for each and every patient who comes in our doors.

Family Life

I grew up in Greenwood and currently live in Anderson with my family. My wife, Gretchen, and I have been blessed with four wonderful children who keep us busy and laughing. In my spare time, I enjoy golf, hunting, fishing, watching college football and, most of all, spending time with my family. I have also been an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church for the past three years.
